    MTWPAM Membership Types

    Active Membership

All practitioners in good standing with our association are considered Active members. The Massage Therapists’ and Wholistic Practitioners’ Association of the Maritimes (MTWPAM) has been part of the wellness community since 1994.

    An Active member is:

    • Granted access to Association benefits
    • Capability to provide official receipts and direct billing (insurer dependent)
    • Insurance companies are apprised of active member status regularly
    • Recognized by many businesses and associations across the Maritimes
    • Vote on association matters
    • Continuing Education Program
    • Provided a voice and vote in the association business
    • Capability to serve as a member of several working groups or on the board
    • Able to attend meetings, workshops and other special events such as the Annual General Meeting of the association
    • Eligible to serve on committees
    • Provided access to closed social media pages and discussion groups

    Student Membership

At one time we were students and we remember the passion, the enthusiasm and the ideas we had during our training. The opportunity to be involved in your profession during this training period can provide you with valuable networking abilities and the experience of seasoned therapists.

We want to have the involvement of our future therapists and practitioners now, so we can make sure we provide and address your needs and be the type of association that can support you when you need us most.

    A Student Member is:

    • Enrolled in an accredited recognized massage therapy program or wholistic training program but not yet graduated from said program
    • Provided a voice in the association
    • Provided a membership number at no cost to the student
    • Able to attend meetings, workshops and other special events such as the Annual General Meeting of the association
    • Eligible to serve on committees
    • Eligible to transition quickly in active membership
    • Provided access to closed social media pages and discussion groups
    Wholistic Therapist Award

Each year MTWPAM, in concert with many schools, provides a “Wholistic Therapist Award”. This award is voted on by the faculty of each school and then presented at that yearʼs graduation ceremony to the “graduating student who best exemplifies the qualities of a wholistic therapist”.

    Associate Membership

Massage Therapists already registered with another group within Nova Scotia, in another Province -- or even in another country -- but wish to be a part of our association, may become an Associate member.

We do advise you to consult your current association to ensure that joining MTWPAM is acceptable to that association.

    An Associate Member is:

    • Provided access to closed social media pages and discussion groups
    • Granted the benefits of Active members
    • Able to attend meetings, workshops and other special events such as the Annual General Meeting of the association
    • Ineligible to hold a Board director position
    • Eligible to serve on committees
    • Required to maintain insurance, First Aid and all Continuing Education requirements

    Inactive Membership

For those active members who, for whatever reason, decide they wish to remain with the association, but are not actively practicing, may place their membership in an inactive status.

This is most helpful when moving out of an area or closing down your business.

    An Inactive Member is:

    • Required to maintain First Aid and comply with Continuing Education program
    • Not required to provide insurance certification/renewal.
    • See Insurance section for more information
    • Required to renew status at a reduced cost from Active membership
    • Ineligible to provide receipts for therapy provided after status changed to Inactive
    • Provided continued access to closed social media pages and discussion groups
