The course is designed to be a brief history and then the rest of the two days is demonstration and hands on treatment. Tui Na a Western Approach, this practice has been performed since 2000 BC and falls under the umbrella of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

During the course I teach how to use its techniques on the whole body. I show techniques that incorporate Soft Tissue with Nerve settling, Stretching and Pressure Points at the same time to always limit the amount of discomfort to the client. It incorporates bone settling which can be thought to be like modern day Chiropractic, however we only teach it to a Grade 3 mobilizations to stay within our scope of practice as RMTS. It also has many of the same techniques that are like modern day Osteopathy, again all these techniques are within our scope of practice.

For me it’s a body saving form of practice as I am 63 and have been doing this for a total of 37 years. It helps me work with the body holistically, soft tissue with traction, stretching, mobilizations, acupressure, abdominal and viscera work, myofascial, all GSM techniques including tapôtement, which I feel is underutilized in today’s practices. It also uses a form of active release, GTO release, rib springing and TMJ external work. It is also the use of deep pressure instead of deep tissue once again to work with the body without causing a lot of pain.

I believe that corrections made using force won’t hold as well as those using finesse. Forceful corrections/manipulations don’t require the body’s permission or cooperation.

I am a yoga instructor and trained as a Trauma informed therapist and use this in my teaching. The yoga for home care and the knowledge of the body in motion aspect to incorporate when working with soft tissue injuries more intensely.
