This Acupressure and Meridian Massage course is designed to teach students the basics concepts and techniques used in acupressure and meridian massage. This course focuses on identifying and treating musculoskeletal conditions using acupressure and meridian massage principles and techniques.
The ancient practitioners of China spent thousands of years perfecting their system of massage. While they use the terms acupoint, meridian and qi, in this course, we update the language and discuss the concepts of trigger points, neurovascular nodes, myofascial meridians and how mechanical force is transmitted through predictable pathways in the body.
Students will learn the principles of how acupressure works and what it can be used for, including cautions and contraindications.
With a modern understanding of acupoints, meridians, and “energy,” we then move to section two, where students learn seventeen different manual techniques to treat the body's connective tissues. The techniques are broken down step by step, detailing body mechanics, hand positions, and areas of application.
In sections three and four, students will learn how to locate the exact locations of over 100 of the most commonly used acupoints in the body and how to apply the appropriate techniques learned in the previous section to each of the points.
Section five focuses on assessing and treating common musculoskeletal disorders such as shoulder pain, neck pain, low back pain, and headaches using a variety of techniques and acupoints.
In section six, the focus moves to homecare. Homecare is an essential part of any form of massage therapy. In this section, students will learn simple stretch exercises, basic strengthening exercises and postural correction exercises.
